Esma DİLEK holds a MSc. Degree in Computer Science from Boston University, Boston/USA, and a BEng. degree in Computer Engineering from Yıldız Technical University, Istanbul/Turkey. She has been working at Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s (IMM) Traffic Department as Deputy Traffic Manager and responsible for coordinating and managing Intelligent Transportation Systems technical team. She has worked for developing Traffic Control Center’s web and mobile traffic applications which are among the most popular and prevalently used traffic applications in Istanbul. She has developed the software which communicates with more than 500 traffic measurement sensors installed on Istanbul’s highways and collects data from them and stores collected data on IMM’s servers to be employed by various applications such as IMM’s Traffic Intensity Map, smartphone apps, TV channels, and smart TVs. She has interest in R&D projects where Intelligent Transportation Systems are employed for public benefit. She has deployed online travel time calculation system and traffic estimation system in Istanbul which generate online travel time between selected source-destination locations and estimated speeds on roads for the next 15, 30, 45, 60 minute intervals using Artificial Intelligence approaches. She has recently completed coordinating and carrying out the tasks within the context of "VITAL” Project under the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Community (2007-2013) in which IMM is a partner. She has been the project manager of “Roadmaps for Energy (R4E)” Project which is an EU funded project under the Horizon 2020 programme that aims to develop a new type of energy strategy through visions and roadmaps. Furthermore, she is a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) and a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist.
